Alex's Adventure!

So yesterday afternoon, I had gone up to Ben's parent's to get their house ready for their homecoming. They have been in Switzerland picking up Ben's brother Paul from his mission. I used the spare key to get in and set it on the table, put Alex in the high chair with something to eat and ran outside to get Jeremy, who was asleep in the van. As I went to go back in the house, lo and behold the door was locked! With Alex inside! I go over to the neighbor's to see if they had a spare. They don't. They call the other neighbor to see if they have one. They don't. In the meanwhile, I discovered that I had left the van keys in the house and I can't start it to keep Jeremy warm. He doesn't want to go to the neighbors to keep warm. I check all the other doors and they are locked tight since Ben's parents haven't been home. They also have brand new windows so there is not way to push a window out. So then I call Ben, who was at his brother's house. He had his mom's car and I hoped their was a spare key to the house. He rushed up to his parents and we tried the door. The key didn't work. We are supposed to be getting to the airport soon. Ben starts calling his family to see if anyone has a key. No one does. Ben calls 911. They won't come because they have had too many people get mad when they break a window to get in. Ben tells them that there is a child inside the house. They say they will call an officer. He comes by but can't help. We can see Alex from the window and he cries when he sees us but for the most part sits contently. Ben's sister-in-law starts to call locksmiths, as do I over at the neighbors. Jeremy finally agrees to go and stay at their house. I have no luck getting a locksmith. I even called Triple A, who my inlaws have, but they only unlock cars. My sister-in-law is able to get a hold of some locksmiths but they are too far away. She tries A-1 Key service. They are able to come out. Mike Budge is his name and he just happens to know the Gerritsen's. He proceeds to help us and is nice enough to not charge us because there is a baby inside! We are so grateful and Alex was so happy to see us! Funny thing to all this is that when Ben was a baby, Ben's parents had just moved into the same house and Ben's dad Bryan was working at the deaf and blind school. Becky, Ben's mom, had gone outside for something with Travis and Steve, Ben's older brothers, leaving Ben inside asleep. As she attempts to go back into the house, the door is locked. She had to go to a neighbors, who she had never met, to see if they could drive her to Bryan to get a key. So it feels like Deja Vu. We are so grateful for the kindness of others though!

Christmas, Christmas, Christmas!

I just wanted to show everyone our cute tree. We all picked it out at a tree stand place and just loved it! It is really soft and it was fun to decorate it all together. We saved some pine cones from Ben's grandpa Gerritsen's gravesite when he died in August and put those on the tree too. It's good for the kids to remember. Also, Jeremy was able to go with his preschool to a local assisted living center and sing Christmas Carols. He also was able to give a treat to this wonderful lady!

Christmas party

So it has started. We attended our first family Christmas party of the season. It was the annual Dinsdale Christmas party. I have no idea how many we have had because we have always had one it seems. My brother Corey hosted this one. We decided to start rotating this year because it seems the same person always seems to feel like they should do it. We went to Corey's ward and ate and played games. It was fun and nice to be with the family. Most of my family came and so it was nice to see mostly everyone. My sister Rachel came late and gave us the progress report on my nephew Jayden. He has come such a long way and we are all so grateful. He can now walk with some help and is working to get his speech back. The other day, Jeremy wrote a letter to Santa that we mailed at a special mailbox at our local Santa hangout. Well he got a reply and since he mentioned that his cousin Jayden was sick in the hospital, Santa sent a letter for Jayden too. So I gave it to my sister. She and her husband strongly feel that Jayden will be home for Christmas. It was thought it would be February so it will be really neat if he's home for Christmas. Rachel said that Jayden said he wanted to be normal again. He also wants to go home. We were all talking about how my sister and her husband could have handled all of this so much differently and been bitter about it and thought why did this happen to us and it's all so horrible. But they didn't and have turned it all to the positive. Jayden is loved and knows that he is. The healing power of love is definetely something the medical community can't explain.

Busy holiday season!

Our little family has been busy! On Wednesday, November 28, we went down to the Festival of Trees with Grandma Gerritsen. We wanted to see the tree that Ben's cousin Megan does every year in memory of her son Chance. It was about Thomas the Train. Alex's favorite tree was the Elmo tree. Jeremy really wanted to see Santa. The line took forever but he was happy to let Santa know what he wanted.
On a shopping trip with me the next day (there's reasons why I don't like to take the kids with me), Jeremy was quite disgusted with it all. When I asked him why he was such a trouble maker, he said "I don't know why. I just am!"

Snow, Snow Snow!!!

So for those who didn't know, it snowed! Jeremy and Alex were so excited. Since last year Alex was under one when it was snowing, he didn't quite remember it. He was quite enthralled with it! Jeremy got to have a snowball fight with his friends. On a side note, is it just me or does it seem like just when you have started to do something, like work on the computer, there's a big "MOM!!!"? On Saturday, it snowed really good so we decided to play outside and build a snowman. It was quite fun! Alex didn't really like being pushed face first in the snow by his brother though!

Family, family, family

Today I went up to my sister Becky's and joined with the girls in the family to celebrate my niece Amanda getting married. We are all excited for her! I also got to meet my nephew's new baby boy Dawson. He was born back in October. We had a good Thanksgiving at Ben's parents. The boys were able to go and play at the park with grandpa, dad and uncles and cousins. I came home to have Alex take a nap.

Here we come!

It seems as everyone seems to have a blog & we have talked about one day having a blog for our family, so we are officially starting our online blog. Since Ben and I don't have a working digital camera (other than Ben's phone), pictures will be hard to come by but we will try to get more pics on here. Here are pictures from the last year to catch up from the year.
We went to Arkansas at the end of March to visit Ben's sister Jen and her family.  It was a lot of fun.  We stayed in Tulsa Oklahoma before we headed to her house and went to a fun pizza place.  Then we headed to their house and had lots of fun.  We visited a recreation center,  went to Silver Dollar City and went on a bus called Ride the Ducks.
